Earth Day(Utica, NY – April 2013) Empire Recycling Corporation of Utica, New York will once again be celebrating Earth Day by donating materials to area resident artists. Monday April 22 from 9-11 a.m. artists from Sculpture Space (a local organization providing residency programs to artists from around the world) and local artists will be invited to Empire’s corporate office and main yard complex to gather the salvaged scrap materials they will need to create their upcoming sculptures.

In the past, artists have made stunning pieces from discarded aluminum, steel and copper and out of interesting objects like trumpets, chains and tubing.

Steven Kowalsky, president of Empire Recycling remarks, “We have partnered with and supported Sculpture Space for over 30 years and this is one of our signature efforts with them. They take scrap from our yard – discarded objects we get in every day – and make stunning pieces of artwork from it. The very nature of our business is recycling and reuse and these artists represent a new dimension of that for us.”

The Earth Day Collection 2013 will be on display the 24th annual CHAIRity Art Auction on Sept. 28 at Sculpture Space. The pieces will be auctioned off to go home with the highest bidders and will benefit artists’ programs at Sculpture Space.
