(Herkimer, NY – April 2013) Girls in fourth through 12th grades and adults have a unique opportunity to experience the unequal distribution of food among the World’s population at a Hunger Banquet on June 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Herkimer BOCES, 352 Gros Boulevard in East Herkimer.
Participants will experience, first hand, what it is like to dine based upon affluence. Girls and adults will draw a colored ticket when they arrive which will indicate their socioeconomic status for the evening. Their status determines what they eat and where they sit in the room. Participants will also hear from people who share their stories and address the issues surrounding hunger and food distribution.
The cost to attend is $5 per participant. Non-Girl Scouts are invited to attend as well, but must register as a Girl Scout by paying the $12 membership fee. The registration deadline for the event is May 20. To register, visit www.gsnypenn.org/ebiz.
