(Rome, NY – May 2, 2013) At approximately 7:33 a.m. May 2 the State Police in Lee investigated a car pedestrian accident that occurred on Williams Road in the City of Rome.

Investigation revealed that while a Bristols Trash and Recycling truck was stopped partially in the eastbound lane, on the south side of the roadway to pick up recyclables at a residence, one of the vehicles occupants, (Sanitation worker Randall S. Bristol 45, of Rome  was standing in the roadway next to the truck reportedly to wave traffic around the stopped vehicle, when a 2004 minivan being operated in a easterly direction by Benjamin D. Hughes 33, of Gouverneur, attempted to pass the stopped truck.

Hughes failed to move far enough to the left of the stopped truck, and struck the truck and Bristol before coming to rest in the east bound lane. Bristol was transported to St Elizabeth’s hospital by AMCARE for knee head and back injuries.

Neither vehicle operator reported having any injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
