(Tully, NY – May 2013)  Girls in fourth through 12th grades and adults will work to raise awareness about homelessness and make a commitment to end homelessness and hunger by sleeping outside in boxes from 4 p.m. on June 14 to 10 a.m. on June 15 at Camp Hoover in Tully.

Girls are asked to bring items for the Rescue Mission, which will benefit the homeless programs in Syracuse, Auburn, and Binghamton. Volunteers from the Rescue Mission will visit and speak to the group, distribute sandwiches, and play games. Girls will participate in contests such as “most decorated box” and “most creative use of box.”

By participating in the program girls will be developing positive values, feel connected to their communities, and will be educating and inspiring others to act – outcomes for the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.  The Girl Scout Leadership Experience allows girls to Discover their interests, Connect with others in their communities and Take Action to make the world a better place.

The program is free but participants must register by May 31 at www.gsnypenn.org/ebiz. Once registered, more information will be e-mailed to participants. For more information contact Miranda Nieto at (315) 733-2391, ext. 2124 or mnieto@gsnypenn.org
