(May 13, 2013) Each year the Oneida County Dairy Promotion Committee Selects an Agri-Business of the Year. The Agri-Business of the Year is awarded to an Oneida County Agri-Business that demonstrates exceptional service and dedication to Oneida County dairy promotion as well as the customers it serves.
The 2013 Oneida County of the Year Agri-Business is Lewis Farms of Sauquoit.
Owners James and Mike Lewis started Lewis Farms nine years ago. They had two tractors, a plow, and a 1980 JD 7720 combine. Their goal was to provide quality, custom plowing and harvesting to area farms.
The first year in business Jim and Mike had three customers and harvested approximately 250 acres. In the years that followed the brothers worked hard to grow their business while continuously providing quality service to farmers in Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, and Otsego counties.
In 2005 Jim and Mike started renting land and growing their own crops of corn and soybeans
Today, Lewis Farms still has the original three customers; plus approximately 30 more. In 2012 the acres harvested by Lewis Farms for area farmers, were upwards of 2,500, plus close to 1,000 acres of their own crops. In 2012 a grain storage facility was added to Lewis Farms in Paris Hill.
Lewis Farms has grown and changed dramatically in the last nine years. The one thing that has not changed is the goal of the Lewis brothers; to provide quality custom plowing and harvesting to farmers in Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, and Otsego counties.
Congratulations to the 2013 Oneida County Agri-Business of the Year
