(Marcy, NY – May 21, 2013) Bjong Wolf Yeigh, the president of the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome (SUNYIT), has accepted the position of Chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
Yeigh, president of SUNYIT since 2008, made the announcement in an open letter to faculty, students and staff.
“While I am honored to have been selected, leaving will not be easy,” Yeigh wrote. “Together, we have accomplished much, but a lot of work remains to be done. For me, the last five years have revealed only a part of SUNYIT’s enormous potential—and it is important that what we have started together continues long after I am gone.”
“The impact of President Yeigh’s leadership on the SUNYIT campus and our entire university system and state has been tremendously positive and our students, faculty, and staff will continue to benefit from his great vision and progress for years to come,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “President Yeigh is much deserving of this new post and we wish him all the best.”
To ensure “a smooth leadership transition,” Yeigh said he will work with Chancellor Zimpher, SUNYIT Provost William W. Durgin and others on campus, and the SUNYIT College Council. While the final selection of a president rests with the SUNY Board of Trustees, the College Council plays a key role in identifying viable candidates and recommends finalists to the Trustees.
