(Oneida, Herkimer Counties, NY – May 2013) United Way is partnering with the Literacy Coalition of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and the Resource Center for Independent Living to host a Summer Reading Book Drive to help local children retain and expand reading and comprehension skills throughout the summer holiday.
Volunteers from RCIL’s Youth Leadership group, a youth group for young adults with developmental disabilities, presented this idea to United Way and the Literacy Coalition for assistance in bringing it to fruition. These young individuals have inspired us to invite the entire community to take part in the Summer Reading Book Drive.
We need YOUR help to make this a success.
We are looking to collect new or gently used books of all kinds for school-aged children Pre-K through High School. Just as we do with our other drives, we are asking for local businesses to collect supplies amongst colleagues within their workplace. The Summer Reading Book Drive is happening now through Friday, June 14. When your books are ready to be picked up call (315) 733-4691 and a volunteer or staff person from United Way will gladly come collect your donation.
For more information, email AdamL@unitedwaygu.org.
With your help, we can make this drive a huge success and create a lasting, positive impact within our community.
With great appreciation,
