(Norwich, NY – May 29, 2013) Chenango County’s 50th Annual Dairy Princess Banquet will be held June 1 at 6:30 p.m. the Norwich Campus of Morrisville State College, 20 Conkey Ave.

2013 Dairy Princess Candidates

Sarah Baker is the 16 year old daughter of Rick Baker and Amanda Cotton of Mount Upton, NY. Sarah owns dairy cattle and is an independent 4-H member. She is also a past dairy ambassador.

In school, Sarah is a member of the National Honor Society, Students Against Drunk Driving, Student

Council, Language Club, High Honors, Leadership Conference, 2013 Girl’s State representative for the class of 2014, High School Band, Jazz Band. Most recently, Sarah earned the distinction of being voted the 2013 Prom Queen for the Mount Upton Junior Class.

Sarah stated that she would like to become the 2013 Chenango County dairy princess to teach people the importance of dairy farmers and stress the value of keeping dairy farms going in the future. In addition, she wants to educate America’s children on the significance of staying healthy, and getting the right amount of nutrition in their daily diet. Sarah’s plans to attend college to study occupational therapy

Exley Bookamer is the 19 year old daughter of Brian and Hannah Bookamer of South Plymouth, NY. Exley is employed by Ransford Creek Farm, owned by Adam Evans. She is an independent member of the 4-H and is a junior member of the Jersey Cattle Association.

In school, Exley is a distinguished honor student, involved with the Student Christian Fellowship, the Student Advisory Committee; she is involved in her church and has completed mission trips to Ethiopia.

Exley stated that she would like to become the 2013 Chenango County Dairy princess to educate people on the importance of farming, particularly the dairy industry, as it is an often overlooked necessity in the United States.

The Ambassadors

Emma Ives is the 15 year old daughter of Terry and Julie Ives of Bainbridge, NY. Emma is a member of the Chenango County 4-H livestock Club as well as the Guilford Carry-On 4-H club (President). She is active in Orchestra, Chorus, and is a Color Guard. She shows rabbits at the county fair. She is interested in carrying on the Ives Family tradition of promoting milk and milk products throughout Chenango County. She plans to attend college to study literature and X-ray Tech Science.

Courtney Baker is the 15 year old daughter of Rick Baker and Amanda Cotton of Mount Upton, NY. She is active in many sports including soccer, basketball, and softball, The National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, SADD, Spanish Club, Jazz Band and Chorus. Courtney plans to attend college to be a large animal veterinarian.

Katelyn Brandt is the 14 year old daughter of Shannon and Ken Brandt of McDonough, NY. Katelyn owns dairy cattle in 4-H. She is a member of the Chenango County 4-H Livestock Club. Katelyn is also involved with the 4-H Teen Council. She is home-schooled and wants to help promote agriculture.

Jenna Mack is the 12 year old daughter of Christine and Doug Mack of Greene, NY. Jenna is an independent 4-H member and shows dairy cattle at the Chenango County Fair. Jenna enjoys feeding calves on her family’s farm in Oxford, NY. She is active in sports, dance, and Odyssey of the Minds. She is an honor student and plans to attend college in the medical field.

Anna Thomsen is the 11 year old daughter of Marsha Thomsen. She is the daughter of a dairy farmer and a member of Storm Family 4-H. She also shows her dairy cow at the fair. Her family belongs to the Holstein Association, 4-H and FFA. She enjoys playing basketball, being involved with 4-H and is on the high honor roll at Unadilla Valley. She wants to be a dairy princess to promote the dairy industry. Her future plans are to do well in school.

Ivy Buchanan is the 11 year old daughter of Aaron Buchanan and Jennifer Stetson. Her father is a dairy farmer and she shows dairy cows at the Chenango County Fair. Ivy is an active member of Storm Family 4-H and loves to volunteer in the Case building during the fair week. Ivy works hard in school and is currently on the Principal’s List at Unadilla Valley. When she grows up she wants to be a dairy farmer, like her dad.

Shannon Lloyd is the 10 year old daughter of Rob and Kate Lloyd. She is a member of the Storm Family 4-H Club. She plays the clarinet and is active in many school extra-curricular events. She loves being a part of the 4-H club and visiting her friends on the farm.

Leah Gorrell is the 10 year old daughter Mike and Kristie Gorell of New Berlin, NY. She enjoys working on her family farm and is active in many school activities. She likes photography and sports. She show dairy cattle at the county fair. She wants to be an ambassador to help promote agriculture in her county. When she grows up she wants to be a dairy farmer, like her Dad.

Raichel Brandt is the 9 year old daughter of Shannon and Ken Brandt of McDonough, NY. Raichel owns dairy cows and dairy goats through 4-H. She is a member of the Chenango County 4-H Livestock Club. She is homeschooled and is excited about helping to promote the dairy industry.

Phalen Hill is the 6 year old daughter of Mark and Amy Hill of New Berlin, NY. Phalen owns dairy cows and is a member of the Storm Family 4-H Club. Phalen is excited about showing her cows, becoming a dairy princess and a veterinarian when she grows up!

Gracie Gorrell is the 5 year old daughter of Mike and Kristie Gorrell of New Berlin, NY. She enjoys helping on her family’s dairy farm, showing cows, sewing, sports, and coloring. Gracie wants to be a member of the dairy court because her Dad is a dairy farmer. When she grows up, she wants to be a dairy princess.

Lily Marshman is the 5 year old daughter of John and Sheila Marshman. She enjoys showing her cows and goats. Lily is active in the Chenango County 4-H and enjoys dancing, skating, and playing soccer. When Lily grows up she wants to be a farmer, like her Dad.

Shaelyn Tanis Rice is the 5 year old daughter of Bret and Jennifer Rice of Norwich. She is an avid animal lover, horseback rider, calf feeder at her Grandparent’s farm, and enjoys supporting her brothers at football games and wrestling tournaments. Shaelyn wants to be a dairy princess because her Mommy was a dairy princess!

2013 Dairy Promotion Scholarship Winner

Sarah Miedema is a junior majoring in Agricultural Business Development at Morrisville State College where she is an honors student. She is active in the Livestock Club and Morrisville Fresh, the operating entity of the Agricultural Business program. Miedema is instrumental in making cheese for the program’s cheese sales. In addition, she is active in her church and is a graduate of Valley Heights Christian Academy.

The daughter of John and Martha Jane Miedema of Sherburne, Miedema is an integral part of her family’s dairy farm business. The Miedema farm business consists of 100 milking age organic cows. She is responsible for managing the baby calves, which involves early morning feedings before college classes and night feedings after classes. Upon graduating from college, Miedema plans to return full-time to the family business.
