(Utica, NY –Aug. 9, 2013) Councilman Joe Marino (D,4) to sponsor legislation officially renaming a portion of what is now called Steele Hill Road starting at Pleasant Street going north through the Utica Zoo property line to Utica Zoo Way.
Councilman Marino said “While it is truly an honor to recognize the wonderful work and quite frankly, re-birth of the Utica Zoo not to mention the amazing job done by their executive director Andria De Lisle-Heath and her board, this change is also quite functional.
The term Steele Hill Road is a series of roadways that run thorough out the Valley View golf course and Val Bialas region of the city, so to come from out of town and put their current address 99 Steele Hill Road in Google or GPS and find the zoo, as either a tourist or delivery person is incredibly difficult. This creates a number of problems for the zoo and giving them their own address will help this problem greatly.
“My family and I cherish the world class zoo we have here and Utica and I am incredibly proud to be able to give back to them a fraction of what they have done for the City of Utica” Marino said.
