(Utica, NY – Aug. 2013) Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc.’s (CFLR, Inc.) Oneida County Suicide Prevention Coalition will host a free community workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 5:30 p.m. entitled, “Moving Forward: The Story of Loss & The Story of Survival,” at the Utica Free Public Library. This workshop will inform and provide community members about the story of two individuals and how they moved forward after losing someone they loved to suicide, and how others can too.

Suicide is a leading, tragic and preventable cause of death. More Americans died from suicide last year than from auto accidents and murders’ combined. Suicide is a serious nationwide public health concern, making suicide prevention a top priority.

Every 40 seconds someone in the world dies by suicide;

Every 41 seconds someone is left to make sense of it.

“[At this workshop] community members who have lost someone they loved by suicide will have the opportunity to listen to individuals who have been in their place. Community members will be able to ask questions, take part in a discussion and learn that they are not alone and there is help to move forward,” said Samantha Madderom, Prevention Specialist for CFLR, Inc.

This event is a collaborative effort between county and local representatives in safety, wellness and suicide prevention; in order, to provide the Community with an opportunity to learn, ask questions and talk to someone about suicide in a safe space.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but is limited to the first 50 attendees. Doors open at 5 p.m. This program will last from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Professional Clinical Services staff members will be on site to speak with community members – in private – who are struggling and would like to speak to someone on an individual basis.

For more information on this workshop or to register, contact Samantha Madderom, Prevention Specialist for CFLR, Inc., at (315) 768 – 2677 or smadderom@cflrinc.org.
