(Westmoreland, NY – Sept. 2013) The Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps (COCVAC) Health and Safety Expo returns this year Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Star Orchards in Westmoreland.
The third annual expo will feature free health screenings, educational information, and fun activities for children, adults, and senior citizens.
“This event has been an extremely valuable service for our community as this is often the only time many individuals are able to meet with such a wide range of healthcare personnel,” according to Steven Dziura, COCVAC’s Chief of EMS. In addition, “Over the past two years, thousands of participants utilized the free services provided by those personnel.”
This year’s event will see many new presenters and the return of many previous ones, including the Bassett Healthcare’s Mobile Cancer Screening Coach that will offer free mammograms, pap tests, and other cancer screenings to individuals without insurance. Those interested in receiving a cancer screening during the event should call 315-798-5248 to schedule an appointment. Additional health screenings include screenings for high blood pressure and blood sugar; balance and flexibility problems; and other health issues.
Also available are representatives from multiple organizations who will be providing demonstrations and answering questions. These organizations include the Oneida County Health Department and the Office for Aging & Continuing Care; St Elizabeth Medical Center and the College of Nursing; students and staff from SUNY IT’s Nurse Practitioner Programs; and a variety of other Physical Therapists, Doctors, and Healthcare Providers.
Entrance into, and the services within the COCVAC Health & Safety Expo are free.
