( Utica, NY – Sept. 20, 2013) Feed our Vets, a not for profit whose mission is to provide free healthy food to needy veterans received a $1,000 check from the Boilermaker Road Race.
“The Boilermaker has had a long history of military support,” said Tim Reed, president of the Boilermaker Road Race. ”It’s great to be able to support both active and former military personnel.’
The money was raised by sales of a commemorative shirt celebrating the Boilermaker ‘Shadow Run’ that took place in Afghanistan. This year’s Shadow Run, which took place the same day as the Boilermaker had over 400 participants representing various military services. To date three shadow runs have taken place in Afghanistan and three in Iraq. The race has traditionally sent race materials overseas such as banners, racing bibs, shirts and finisher’s pins to support the events.
“We are obviously delighted to receive this check from the Boilermaker,” said Richard Synek, founder and executive director of Feed our Vets. “It’s great to see a community-based organization like the Boilermaker supporting our local vets.”
