DollyPartonBook(Oneida, NY – Oct. 2013) To kick off the local expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the entire Oneida City School District, Oneida Public Library invites parents who reside in the district and their children from birth to 3 years old to the library Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. to sign up the children for free books and enjoy entertainment by Joanne Yacovella and refreshments.

Thanks to the Gorman Foundation, the OPL is now able to expand the Imagination Library from Zip Code 13421 to the entire OCSD, including Durhamville, Wampsville and portions of Sylvan Beach, Vernon and Verona. Once eligible parents register, Imagination Library will mail to their pre-school children aged 3 years and younger a free age-appropriate book each month until they turn 5 years old.

“I am really excited that Oneida Library has the unique opportunity in this region to expand registration for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the entire school district,” said OPL’s Imagination Library Coordinator Elaine Clark. “Imagination Library has been so enthusiastically received locally that it is in the process of being expanded throughout Madison County.”

During sign-up Saturday, singer and entertainer Joanne Yacovella, who has often come to the OPL with her pre-school program MusAerobics, will impersonate Dolly Parton in the guise of “Dolly Why Not.”

“If parents sign up their newborns now,” Clark said, “in five years a child could build a library containing 60 high-quality books.”
