(Vernon, NY – Oct. 24, 2013) Oneida-based state police charged a Vernon man with DWI after he fled the scene of a car/dog collision in the Town of Vernon on Oct. 23.
Trooper Terry J. Horton responded to Graves Road in the Town of Vernon at approximately 5:45 p.m. Wednesday evening to investigate a hit and run car / dog accident which had recently occurred.
Horton interviewed the Graves Road resident, who advised she was walking along the shoulder of the roadway with her dog when a car approached her location. The woman stated she waved her arms to try and get the vehicle to slow down and to warn it of the dog walking with her. However, the vehicle struck the dog and continued on without stopping. The dog was deceased at the scene.
The woman then followed the vehicle in her own car and located it in a driveway, also on Graves Road. The woman confronted the driver, identified as Micah B. Wilson, 39, and she contacted 911 to report the incident.
While interviewing Wilson, Trooper Horton determined that he was intoxicated. Further investigation revealed evidence of the collision with the dog on the passenger side of Wilson’s 2003 Cadillac Seville.
Wilson was taken into custody for DWI and transported to SP Oneida for processing. Wilson refused to submit to a chemical test and was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury to an animal.
Wilson was arraigned before Town of Vernon Justice William Croll and remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bond and is scheduled to reappear in Vernon court on Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m.
