(Oswego, NY – Nov. 2013) The American Red Cross of Oswego County has selected Blood Services volunteer Mason Farnham, of Oswego, as Volunteer of the Month for October 2013.
The Volunteer of the Month program, sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, recognizes dedicated Red Cross volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the humanitarian organization.
Farnham has worked at several Oswego County blood drives since joining the Red Cross last March. His duties include of greeting donors at the reception table and checking them in. He has also worked the canteen, distributing snacks and drinks to those who have donated blood.
Farnham became a volunteer because he enjoys helping people and was looking for a way to give back to the community. Blood drives save hundreds of lives, and Farnham said it’s rewarding to be a part of the blood collection process.
Originally from Phoenix, Farnham entered the Navy after graduating from high school and eventually obtained a degree from Excelsior College. He is now a plant operator at Nine Mile Nuclear Station in Oswego and lives in Oswego with his wife, Sarah, and their two children.
Dunkin’ Donuts has generously supplied Red Cross offices throughout Central and Northern New York with gift cards to distribute monthly to deserving volunteers. Farnham received a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for his volunteer service.
