(Phelps, NY – Nov. 15, 2013) Early Saturday morning, Nov. 16, State Police were conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint at the Geneva exit of Interstate 90 in the Town of Phelps.
A man, later identified as John C. Walker, 38, of Syracuse drove a black Toyota Camry through the checkpoint and would not stop for Troopers.
When police attempted to pull him over, Walker continued east on the Thruway, refusing to stop.
Troopers coordinated their efforts and were in place with spike strips just up the road. When State Police deployed the spike strips, it flattened the tires of the Camry and the chase safely came to an end.
Walker was taken into custody without further incident.
Walker faces the following charges:
Third-degree Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, a class A misdemeanor
Second-degree Reckless Endangerment, class A misdemeanor
Reckless Driving
Driving While Intoxicated
Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test
Failure to Obey a Police Officer
Speeding
Failure to Stop at Stop Sign
Walker was arraigned in the Town of Brutus Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail.
