(Utica, NY – Dec. 2013) Please join Center for Family Life and Recovery Inc. (CFLR, Inc.), Mohawk Valley Community College’s Human Services/Psychology Club and other community members for a free screening of the film, The Anonymous People on Thursday Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at MVCC’s Utica Campus (Room IT 225).
Attendees will have the opportunity to gather resources and learn how to get involved in creating a recovery-friendly community.
The Anonymous People is a feature documentary film based upon the over 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions. Deeply entrenched social stigma has kept Recovery Voices silent and faces hidden for decades. Courageous addiction recovery advocates have come out of the shadows and are organizing to end discrimination and move toward recovery-based solutions.
The moving story of the film, The Anonymous People, is told through the faces and voices of citizens, leaders, volunteers, corporate executives, public figures and celebrities who are laying it all on the line to save the lives of others, just like them. This passionate new public recovery movement aims to transform public opinion, engage communities and elected officials, and finally shift problematic policy toward lasting solutions.
This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided (i.e., popcorn, soda and water).
