(Cazenovia, NY – Feb. 2014) Calling all kids ages 6-14! Come to the Cazenovia Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, and celebrate the half-day of school with “Art For Kids.” Join Pat Hill and Jenna Wright for the fourth installment of this successful series and use the creative, fun and colorful materials to create Victorian valentines.
To inspire and enhance the creations, participants will explore the artistic style known as “Steampunk.” What is Steampunk? Picturing the science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea would be getting close.
Steampunk is an art form heavily influenced by the style of 19th century authors such as Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and Mary Shelly. Steampunk artists often use materials that allow their art to move and, following in that tradition, miniature gears, brass brads, wire and an array of materials will be offered to equip everyone’s Victorian valentine with moving parts.
In addition, participants will qualify for a chance to win a beautiful art collection, donated to the library by a good friend who wants children to unleash the artist within. This art collection consists of 178 pieces and includes just about everything an artist would need – color markers, crayons, color pencils, watercolor cakes, oil pastels, acrylic paint tubes and much more – all arranged in a beautiful wooden case with adjustable trays.
Don’t miss the chance to join the fun at the Cazenovia Public Library Feb. 6. Pre-registration is not required for this program.
