(Chittenango, NY – March 2014) The students of Chittenango will be presenting Rogers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
Maria (Sophia Cowburn, Kaleigh Johnson) is a young nun who is sent by her monastery in Austria to the nearby home of the von Trapp family to serve as a governess for the seven von Trapp children. At the abbey, Mother Abbess (Brittanne Handzel) and some of the senior novices (Megan Geariety, Natalie Orbesen, Jenny Spade), encourage Maria to try this new adventure. At the von Trapp home, servants Frau Schmidt (Libby Welch) and Franz (Patrick Clobridge) await the new governess. The children want their father’s attention instead so they make life difficult for any governess hired by their father, Captain von Trapp (Tyler Lewis, Jadin Nourse).
Maria, however, is undaunted by the antics of the children (Paige Wooldridge, Phil Abell, MacKenzie Stevens, Chase Gordon, Hannah Turner, Emma Bailey, Morgan Velardi) and she soon gains their respect and affection. While the Captain is away on a trip, Maria teaches the children to sing and enjoy life. Meanwhile, Elsa (Karlene Becker, Brittany Geiler) and Max (Max Smith, Tyler Sternberg) are making sure that Elsa secures her place as the wife of the widower Captain.
