(Marcellus, NY – March 7, 2014) State Police in Elbridge are investigating a ATV Accident that occurred on Thursday, March 6 at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Amber Road in the Town of Marcellus.

The investigation revealed a Yamaha Grizzly 550 FI ATV was being operated by Kevin J. Richards, age 25, from Tully northbound on Amber Road in the Town of Marcellus when he failed to negotiate curve, drove across the opposite lane of traffic and struck a snow embankment.  Richards was then ejected. The ATV continues north bound into a utility pole and lands on top of Richards.

Richards was not wearing a helmet and suffered head and neck injuries.  He was transported by helicopter to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, NY and was listed in critical condition.

Alcohol and speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Investigation is continuing.
