(Manlius, NY – May 2014) Girl Scout Elizabeth DiGennaro is working on earning her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. To earn the award she decided to address the issue of hair loss in women.

That is why she is holding a Hair-A-Thon, or a free hair-cutting event in which people can donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, an organization which creates and donates wigs to women suffering from hair loss. The Hair-A-Thon will take place on Sunday, June 1 at Mario’s Hair Designs, 131 W. Seneca St. in Manlius from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Each haircut is free. Donors may be of any age or gender and must be willing to donate at least eight inches of clean, dry hair that is not bleached, dyed or more than 5% gray.

“My goal is to have 36 people donate their ponytail, which will be used to produce many wigs for women in need,” DiGennaro said.

To schedule an appointment, interested donors should e-mail hairathon2014@gmail.com or call (315) 446-4649.
