David Pope(Herkimer, NY – May 30, 2014) State Police in Herkimer announce the arrest of David A. Pope for Menacing a Police Officer, a class “D” felony and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a class “D” felony.

Pope was arraigned on May 28 in the Town of Little Falls Court and remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 cash/ $150,000 bond.

(Herkimer, NY – April 26, 2014) The New York State Police in Herkimer are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight at 371 Mill Street in the Village of West Winfield.

The investigation reveals that a trooper was sent to the residence at 11:28 p.m. as a result of a 911 call reporting a disturbance at the residence. In the side yard of the residence, the trooper was confronted by David A. Pope, age 32, of that residence, charged at the trooper wielding a large knife. The trooper fired one .45 caliber round striking Pope in the abdomen. Pope was transported by West Winfield Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

Charges against Pope, who is currently on parole for multiple crimes including second-degree Assault are pending, and the shooting is being evaluated in conjunction with Herkimer County District Attorney Jeff Carpenter as is routine in these type of incidents.
