(Oneida, NY – June 2014) Author Jack Dempsey will present his new book “Sharing the Wealth,” a lighthearted fictional account of a rehabilitation counselor’s career, at Oneida Public Library on Tuesday, June 10, at 4 p.m.

Dempsey, a native of New York City, graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and later earned a Master’s in rehabilitation counseling from Hofstra University. He worked for 30 years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, now called the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities. He retired in 2010.

His fictional hero, Jack O’Leary, likewise becomes a counselor for the handicapped at an agency called Sharing the Wealth.

As the author describes him, “O’Leary, as the reader will discover, is not your prototypical counselor, and his unconventional approach to counseling is both humorous and effective in dealing with the day-to-day rigors that a demanding caseload like his presents.”

Copies of “Sharing the Wealth” will be available for sale and the author’s signing.

For more information, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call 363-3050.
