(North Syracuse, NY – July 24, 2014) State Police in North Syracuse are investigating a crash involving a State Police vehicle on State Route 92 near State Route 173 in the Village of Manlius, Onondaga County.
The investigation has revealed that at approximately 4:27 a.m. July 24, State Police attempted to stop a 2012 Toyota Camry on Oran Delphi Road in the Town of Pompey. The Toyota, which fled from a Manlius officer earlier in the evening, sped off at a high rate of speed and refused to stop.
The suspect vehicle then turned onto State Route 92 headed northwest towards the Village of Manlius.
At approximately 4:32 a.m.the driver, identified as Solomon M. Ochieng, age 19, from Wheaton Road in the City of Syracuse, refused to stop for Troopers and struck an unmarked State Police 2004 Ford Crown Victoria patrol vehicle in the rear pushing the patrol car approximately 100 yards down State Route 92, coming to rest in the southbound lane.
The Toyota went airborne off the roadway striking a fence and landing on its roof. The driver of the Toyota Camry, Solomon M. Ochieng, 19, from Syracuse was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the State Police vehicle, Sergeant Scott T. Kedenburg was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical University Hospital for minor injuries. He was treated and released.
Solomon Ochieng was arrested and charged with the following:
· Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, a class “A” misdemeanor
· Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, a class “D” felony
· Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, a class “D” felony
· Reckless Driving, an unclassified misdemeanor
· Various Vehicle and Traffic Violations
