(Utica, NY- Aug. 2014) Mayor Robert Palmieri and Police Chief Mark Williams recently recognized and honored Jack Carter and Stanley Markis, two civilians who helped Utica Police Officer John Lomonico during an incident in which Jack and Stanley “courageously” assisted Officer Lomonico while he was in a scuffle with a “dangerous” suspect.

The suspect was in possession of a hand gun and Officer Lomonico was able to arrest him after Jack and Stanley came to his aid.

“The courage shown by Jack and Stanley is truly inspiring and demonstrates how special our community is,” said Mayor Palmieri.  “I thank them and Officer Lomonico for their bravery in keeping our community safe.”

Utica award 2Police Chief Williams stated, “On behalf of all the members of the Utica Police Department we are very grateful that both Mr. Carter and Mr. Markis came to the aid of Officer John Lomonico. Their intervention with this dangerous criminal potentially saved the life of our police officer and prevented a tragic outcome.”

The Mayor and Chief Williams formally presented Stanley, Jack and Officer Lomonico with Certificates of Recognition from the City.

Also, through contributions from the Thomas Lindsey Foundation, the Mayor, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) and the Police Chief and Deputy Chief’s Union, Jack and Stanley were each provided $500 gift cards as an expression of gratitude and appreciation.

In addition, Jack is helping to raise five children and through these contributions, Jack and the children will have a limousine take them to Enchanted Forest in Old Forge.
