Oneida County Legion to Honor Local Man, Rehab Program

(Rome, Utica, NY – Sept. 2014) The leaders of the New York State American Legion Family will bring their message of action-oriented support for veterans and communities during a visit to Oneida County on Friday, Oct. 3.

Department of New York Commander Frank Peters will meet with local members of the American Legion Family during lunch at Utica Post 229 in North Utica. Joining him will be Department Auxiliary President Diane Gerber and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Detachment Commander Chuck Depot.

The state commander will join Oneida County American Legion Commander Anthony Palladino in presenting awards to a Camden man for his devotion to veterans and to a Utica rehab program for providing a healing environment for wounded warriors, veterans and their families.

Following the luncheon, the state leaders will tour Sitrin Health Care’s Military Rehabilitation Program.

In the evening, they will be the guest speakers at a dinner in their honor at Rome Polish Home in Rome. More than 200 Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members are expected to attend.

Commander Peters is a 25-year Legion member, U.S. Navy veteran and retired Staten Island Ferry captain. Immediately following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Peters directed his ferry boat to evacuate people from Manhattan. President Gerber is a 25-year Auxiliary member from Staten Island who has chaired a number of committees on the state level. Commander Depot is a 22-year SAL member from Plattsburgh who has served in leadership positions on nearly all levels of the organization.
