(Norwich, NY – Feb. 2015) The fourth free public film showing in the 2014-15 season of the ‘Second Tuesday’s Monthly Film Series’ titled “Pay To Play: Democracy’s High Stakes” will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 10 at the United Church of Christ, 11 W. Main, Norwich.
This film explores the potentially corrupting system where politicians reward their campaign donors with even larger sums from the public treasury—through contracts, tax cuts, deregulation and other desired legislation; laws even written by donors’ lobbyists.
This entertaining, but extensively researched, sourced and interviewed educational film lays out a compelling case against corporate personhood and money as free speech which undermines democracy and creates oligarchy. It shows how our government can be returned to its constitutional mandate as a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, maintaining one person can make a difference, inspiring hope for change.
The public is invited to come at 6:3o p.m. for a light supper before the showing, and to stay on for discussion. It is co-sponsored by Chenango Peace Action and C-CARE (Community Action for Renewable Energy).
For more information, call Chris at 334-6095, or Ken at 895-6975.
NOTE: It is requested that attendees please park on the street, in the nearby municipal Hayes Street or County Office Building parking lots, not in the church’s lot behind it.
