Oneida County Legion to Honor WWII Veterans, Camden Man
(Camden, NY – Sept. 2015) The leaders of the New York State American Legion Family will bring their message of action-oriented support for veterans and communities during a visit to Oneida County on Friday, Oct. 2.
Department of New York Commander James Yermas will meet with local members of the American Legion Family during lunch at Arthur S. Moran Post 66 in Camden. Joining him will be Department Auxiliary President Janet Mahoney and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Detachment CommanderJoseph L. SantaCroce Jr.
Yermas will be available to meet with news media at 12:15 p.m. immediately following lunch.
The state commander will join Oneida County American Legion Commander Don Edwards in honoring several World War II veterans at the luncheon. Later in the day, during a banquet at Nicole’s in Camden, they will present an award to a Camden man for his devotion to veterans.
Following the luncheon, the state leaders will tour Sitrin Health Care’s Military Rehabilitation Program in Utica.
In the evening, they will be the guest speakers at a dinner in their honor at Nicole’s. Some 200 Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members are expected to attend.
An Amsterdam native and Town of Florida resident, Commander Yermas is a 47-year Legion member. He is a U.S. Army veteran who served as an aircraft repairman with the 101st Aviation Unit in Hue Phu Bai, Vietnam, where he earned the nickname, Jungle Jim.
President Mahoney is a 17-year Auxiliary member from the Rhinebeck area who has chaired a number of committees on the state level. Commander SantaCroce is a 33-year SAL member from Brooklyn who has served in leadership positions on nearly all levels of the organization.
