DSC_0006Campaign aims to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries through free smoke alarm installations, education

BUFFALO, NY, Friday, February 26, 2016— The American Red Cross is proud to announce that National Fire Adjustment Company, Inc. (NFA) has made a $50,000 donation in support of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. The Western and Central New York Region will use this gift to help reduce the number of fire related deaths and injuries across its 26 counties through the installation of smoke alarms and encouraging households to create and practice fire escape plans.

“On behalf of the American Red Cross, I want to say thank you to Ronald Papa and everyone at National Fire Adjustment Co., Inc. for their incredibly generous support,” said Rosie Taravella, American Red Cross, Western and Central NY Regional CEO. “This partnership will truly save lives by helping families better prepare themselves to safely escape a home fire.”

Ronald Papa, NFA President and CEO, presented the company’s gift to the Red Cross on Friday, February 26, 2016.

“Here at National Fire Adjustment, we see every day the damage that fire can cause,” said Papa. “I think the Home Fire Campaign is a great way to make families aware of the importance of having working smoke alarms and practicing escape plans, and we’re proud to partner with the Red Cross on this life-saving campaign.”

The goal of the Home Fire Campaign is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires by 25 percent nationally over five years. The Red Cross is asking every household in America to take two simple steps: check their existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home. The Red Cross is joining with fire departments, community groups and companies such as National Fire Adjustment to install free smoke alarms in homes that need them. Since July 1, 2015, Red Cross volunteers have installed nearly 3,000 smoke alarms in homes across Western and Central New York. During the installation appointment, volunteers also help families create fire escape plans and encourage them to practice those plans. Anyone in need of smoke alarms can email smokealarms.wny@redcross.org or call 716-878-2353 to schedule an appointment.

With offices across Western and Central New York, including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Jamestown and Elmira, as well as elsewhere across the United States and Canada, National Fire Adjustment Company, Inc., helps victims of fires and other disasters work with insurance companies to recover their losses.
