(Hastings, NY – Feb. 7, 2013) The New York State Police will be hosting a child seat clinic on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Central Square Walmart, 3018 East Ave. (State Route 49) in Central Square.

New York State Law requires all children be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle, until they reach their 8th birthday. An appropriate child restraint system is one that is fit to the child’s size and weight as recommended by the manufacturer. A safety belt alone is not designed for your children.
Remember:

Select a car seat based on your child’s age and size, choose a seat that fits in your vehicle, and use it on every trip, every time.

Always refer to your specific car seat manufacturer’s instructions; read the vehicle owner’s manual on how to install the car seat using the seat belt or LATCH system; and check height and weight limits.

To maximize safety, keep your child in the car seat for as long as possible, as long as the child fits within the manufacturer’s height and weight requirements.
