(Utica, NY – Feb. 28, 2013) The area’s brightest young minds will assemble at Utica College’s 35th Regional Science Fair for a unique chance to share their knowledge. Students from Oneida and Chenango counties, ranging from grades 7 to 12, will bring their A-game and present research in more than a dozen categories, from behavioral and computer science to microbiology and engineering.
Entrants will compete in either the senior level (grades 9-12) or junior level (grades 7-8) for cash prizes, tuition scholarships and select special prizes awarded by organizations such as the American Meteorological Association, Intel, the U.S. Army and many others.
The senior level grand champion, in addition to winning a two-year, half-tuition scholarship to UC, is also eligible to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh this May. Last year’s senior grand champion was Mary Ann Bulawa, a sophomore student at Rome Free Academy, with her project, “Optimizing Algae Growth.”
The Utica College Regional Science Fair will take place Saturday, March 9, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library Concourse. The general public will be admitted to view the exhibits at1 p.m., and the grand champion, runner-up and special prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. Students will be allowed to set up their exhibits March 8 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
