(Syracuse, NY – March 2013) The Shamrock Animal Fund will honor three veterinarians with the Diane Smith Service Award at its Fourth Annual Shamrock’s Celebration, March 23 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Shamrock’s Celebration benefits The Shamrock Animal Fund, an organization that helps pay for veterinary care for local animals with medical need who have owners with financial limitations. The 2013 honorees are Dr. Ann Harris of Manlius, Dr. Elizabeth Berliner of Ithaca and Dr. Marcia Ziegler-Alexander of Fayetteville, who will be recognized for their dedication to animal welfare in the community.

Dr. Berliner is the director of clinical programs for the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Berliner is being honored for her expert counsel in planning the Healthy Pet Clinics and her ongoing commitment in connecting Cornell and its students to the Clinics.

Dr. Harris is a practicing veterinarian at Rockacres Veterinary Hospital in Manlius, which she opened in 2001. Dr. Harris also serves on the board of The Shamrock Animal Fund, offering valued advice and counsel and has supported the Healthy Pet Clinics with donations of goods and her veterinary skills.

Dr. Ziegler-Alexander is a practicing veterinarian at Stack Hospital for Pets in Fayetteville, which she has co-owned for 16 years. Dr. Ziegler-Alexander has been a leader among veterinarians with the Healthy Pet Clinics, showing dedication and commitment in offering low-cost veterinary care to those less fortunate. She has also assisted with The Shamrock Animal Fund cases by offering discounted care at her practice.

Co-founders of the Fund, Matt Mulcahy and Jamie Pomilio-Mulcahy are proud to continue the tradition of honoring some of the best veterinarians in the Central New York community. They will celebrate the work of these veterinarians and the volunteers of the Healthy Pet Clinics with a special video at Shamrock‘s Celebration. The Diane Smith Service Award was named after Diane Smith, the longtime director of finance at Fairmount Animal Hospital and an early supporter of The Shamrock Animal Fund.
