(March 1, 2013) State Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) said that this week the Senate submitted additional committee assignments for the 2013-14 Legislative Session. Griffo has been selected to serve on two additional committees: the new Senate Select Committee on Science, Technology, Incubation and Entrepreneurship; and the new Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Capital Investment.
It was also announced that Senator Griffo will become the new Deputy Republican Conference Leader for Senate/Assembly Relations.
The new Committee on Science, Technology, Incubation and Entrepreneurship will be tasked with making legislative recommendations on efforts to strengthen entrepreneurial, job creation and innovation efforts in New York. Griffo said this Committee will examine legislation to increase collaboration by and with the State’s academic institutions, private foundations and municipalities; provide greater access to capital markets and fully utilize the expertise of state and national incubator organizations.
The new Committee on Infrastructure and Capital Investment was created in response to the state’s renewed focus on the importance of rebuilding the infrastructure and economy of upstate New York. Among its other responsibilities, this Committee will oversee maximizing economic-development opportunities, particularly upstate, and review laws pertaining to public bidding.
