(Herkimer, NY – Aug. 2013) Herkimer County Community College recently held its third annual summer Robotics Camp in partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome.
Local students from Herkimer, Mohawk, Sauquoit, Frankfort and Little Falls in third through eighth grade participated in the week-long program designed to teach them how STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) can be used in real life situations. Participants were introduced to programming mobile robots, various types of sensors, applying measurement & geometry to calculate robot navigation, experimental process, and experiment documentation using LEGO Mindstorm Robotic kits.
Instructor Jordan Purinton, a teacher at Frankfort Middle School, has been teaching the Robotics Camp at HCCC since its inception. “We are preparing students for jobs of the future,” he said.
