(Earlville, NY – Sept. 2013) If it’s September at the Quincy Square Museum, then Keith Rifenburg, auctioneer, appraiser extraordinaire and owner of Marquis Auctions in Earlville, is in the museum.

The final program of the summer series at the museum will be on Sept. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. For $5 bring two of your favorite antiques for appraisal by Rifenburg.  There is no limit to the number of appraisals. With Rifenburg’s wide knowledge of antiques and “not” antiques, you will probably learn something new about your treasures.

This fundraiser will help keep the museum warm, house local artifacts and historical documents and information about southern Madison County.

The museum has a fresh coat of paint thanks to previous fundraisers. This summer the roof needed replacing to protect the museum. Not an easy task, but has been done. Funds are low right now, but with your support of this event we will start rebuilding the museum’s bank account. (If you aren’t able to come to this event, donations to the museum will be greatly appreciated).

While waiting for your appraisals the museum collection includes a Parsons Low Down Milk Wagon, local school yearbooks and many other displays telling Earlville and Southern Madison County’s past.

The counter from the former Post Office, complete with a large section of post boxes (If you remember your combination, come try it out) is another gem from the village’s past to explore.  Did you know perfume was made in Earlville? Come learn something new about the village.

Quincy Square Museum, located at 23 East Main St. is open on Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. through September or by appointment (315.691.2406).

Numerous exhibits about local industries and events from the turn of the 19th century and John R. Parsons historical writings are a few of the treasures and resources available.
