(Syracuse, NY – Sept. 2013) The American Red Cross of Central New York selected financial development volunteer Charles “Chuck” McGannon, of North Syracuse, as its Volunteer of the Month for August 2013.
The Volunteer of the Month program, sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, recognizes dedicated Red Cross volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the humanitarian organization.
McGannon has been a Red Cross volunteer since 2008 and spends about 12 hours per week working on data entry and other projects for the financial development department. McGannon also worked several shifts at the American Red Cross parking lot at the recent New York State Fair.
McGannon retired in 2003 after 37 years with the U.S. Army and Navy as military communications project manager and chief analyst for the Department of Defense at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse. Looking to stay busy after retirement and wanting to help his community, McGannon joined the Red Cross after a news story about the organization caught his attention.
Dunkin’ Donuts has supplied Red Cross chapters and branches throughout Northern and Central New York with gift cards to distribute monthly to deserving volunteers. McGannon received a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for his volunteer service.
