(Herkimer, NY – Feb. 2015) On Feb. 4 at approximately 10:34 p.m. Herkimer County 911 received a report of a personal injury snowmobile accident operator unresponsive CPR in progress.
Preliminary investigation reveals Raymond J. Barretta, age 48, from New Hartford was traveling on a 2013 Polaris Indy 600SP snowmobile, in a northerly direction on a trail head approximately one mile south of Roberts Road in the Town of Litchfield. Witnesses on scene stated Barretta was going too fast for conditions and failed to negotiate a curve.
Barretta exited the west shoulder off of the trail and struck a tree ejecting Barretta. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
