(New Hartford, NY – May 2015) Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R,C—New Hartford) recently announced the United States House of Representatives passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Tenney is a pro-life supporter who has opposed the expansion of late term abortion during her time in the New York State Assembly.
“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is a step in the right direction for protecting the rights of the unborn. As a mother and a pro-life supporter, I am thankful that Congress voted to pass this ban on abortions after 20 weeks,” said Tenney.
The bill passed with a vote of 242 to 184.
In a recent Quinnipiac poll, 60 percent said they support legislation that would ban virtually all abortions nationwide after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases of rape and incest that are reported to authorities.
In March, Tenney voted against Assembly bill A.6221, a measure that would expand third trimester abortions and allow an abortion at any time during the 9 months of pregnancy, with a doctor’s consent. The bill would also allow non-doctors to perform abortions.
Tenney sponsors a number of bills to enact restrictions on abortions, including:
A.06502- A measure that would provide the tools necessary to bring justice to those who commit acts of violence against mothers and their unborn children.
A.04771- The Family Protection Act, which provides for parental consent for an abortion of an unemancipated minor.
A.03048A- Requires the commissioner of the department of health to undertake periodic inspections of abortion clinics.
Tenney is introducing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the New York State Assembly.
