(Sherburne, NY – June 2015) On Saturday June 13, the fourth annual Sherburne Arts Festival will take place at Gaines Park on East State Street, next to the Sherburne Public Library.
Beginning at 10 a.m., the festival will showcase the work of 40 artists and crafters from Central New York, featuring exquisite works of art in a variety of media: photography, watercolor, oil paintings, glass work, jewelry, fiber arts, hand-made frames, wood work, metal sculpture, gourds, hand-made soaps, and so much more.
In addition to a special exhibit featuring the paintings of Sherburne artist Henry Grant Plumb (1847-1930) as well as items from his estate discovered by art historian Dr. Christine Oaklander, there will be an exhibit of artwork by Sherburne-Earlville Central School students. The work will be judged by local artist Julian Button, and first, second, and third-place prizes will be awarded, for $100, $75, and $50 gift certificates for art supplies from festival sponsor Golden Artist Colors.
An interactive kids art tent will have plenty of supervised projects for kids of all ages, and two amazing educational exhibits will be on display: Dan the Snake Man and Master Falconer Rick West, who will bring several species of wild raptors. Caricature artist Jim Coon will be making caricatures all day, free of charge, as a gift from the library to everyone who attends the festival.
There will be live music all day long, beginning with local folksinger Pamme Swan and banjo player Steve Skollar (from 11 a.m. to noon). Central New York native Mike MacDonald will perform from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with a repertoire of music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Hamilton’s Williams Road takes the stage at 2 pm with their unique blend of folk, roots, and Americana.
Raffles and ticket auctions will be ongoing throughout the day, with dozens of gift baskets donated by local businesses and residents. Master woodworker Bruce Webster has donated a one-of-a-kind creation to be raffled, and the ever-popular $100 Lotto Board will also be raffled. All proceeds will benefit the Sherburne Public Library and the Arts Festival. The festival is a revival of the original art show begun in 1947 by local artist Mariea Brown.
All artwork is under tents in case of rain, and there will be food and drink available for purchase throughout the day. Parking is available in several village lots and on the street.
