(Sherburne, NY – Nov. 2015) Join Friends of Rogers and guest presenter Carol Smith at 10 a.m. on Dec. 5 to create a festive holiday wreath. Participants will receive instructions and all materials necessary to design and build this traditional decoration.

A native of central New York, Smith studied horticulture at Cornell University. Over the years, she has spent countless hours tending to the gardens at the Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.

“We are very excited that Carol is facilitating this new program,” said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers executive director. “She will provide insight and guidance for budding floral designers in the creation of their very own holiday wreath.”

A holiday wreath is one of the most popular decorations during the yuletide season. Wreaths are traditionally hung on front doors as a sign of welcome, used in Advent wreaths in Christian traditions, strung from lampposts in cities and villages, and used in a variety of other ways. Although the wreath has strong historical ties to Christianity, the holiday wreath has evolved into a sign of welcoming and an acknowledgment of holiday cheer for the season, emphasizing generosity, giving, and the gathering of loved ones.

Space is limited; advance registration is strongly encouraged at $12 for members or $15 for not-yet-members; call (607) 674-4733 or email env.educator@FriendsofRogers.org to register.
