(Verona, NY – Oct. 24, 2013) The Oneida Indian Nation Police Department has partnered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, Saturday, Oct. 26. This marks the seventh time Oneida Nation Police and DEA agents have teamed up to help the public properly dispose of unwanted prescription medications.
The previous nationwide drug take-back days to date have taken more than 2 ½ million pounds of prescription medication out of circulation.
Oneida Indian Nation Police Superintendent Arthur Pierce said, “This event gives the public a convenient and confidential way to dispose of unused or unwanted prescription medications. Our partnership with the DEA helps battle prescription drug abuse by getting rid of medications before they fall into the hands of individuals not intended to take them.”
Those wishing to drop off prescription drugs can take them to the Turning Stone Resort Casino Event Center driveway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The Oneida Indian Nation Police Command Vehicle will be on-site and staffed to assist the public in properly disposing of unwanted medications.
The DEA and Oneida Nation Police advise those who cannot make it to a drug take-back day to speak with a pharmacist about proper prescription medication disposal.
